ONE  MONTH  LEFT  TO  WGD ...

Do not hide your activities

More than 300 activities have been submitted on the website. The last ones are still being checked for consistency and will appear on the site before this weekend. But there are still large balloonless areas on the map, where we know that activities are being organized.

The success of the World Glaucoma Day depends not only on the number of worldwide events, but also on their visibility. If you are planning an event and have not notified the website yet, now is the time to do it. Go on www.wgday.net, click "Be a part of it" and tell the world about your contribution to increased glaucoma awareness. (If you do not want your contact details to appear online, there's a tick-box to uncheck, and then your activity will appear anonymously)

Reach out for the media ...

NEW ON THE SITE:
A Media Tool Kit, kindly supplied by Allergan, gives step-by-step advice to help you contact reporters, prepare for an interview, or write a press release. The kit includes a number of templates that you can customize to your specific situation. Download this Working-with-the-Media primer from the Media section of the website and learn how to optimize your interaction with the Media to best convey your World Glaucoma Day message.

Local Events Highlight

In Singapore, the GPAS (Glaucoma Patient Association of Singapore)and the Singapore WGD Committee are organizing an impressive number of activities: Screening events at four different Hospitals, some for the entire week; a high-visibility event at the Health Promotion Board; fliers, posters, banners to be distributed nation-wide in Singapore. Find out more from the Guide to WGD Events in Singapore on the GPAS website

You still have time ... (though not too much!)

If you have not organized anything yet – or if you think it costs too much effort and money to "Be a Part of It" – think again: Screening events in your institution or in a public venue can be organized at relatively short notice with the help of local associations. Mass media (newspapers, TV, radio) require a lead time of no more than two or three weeks and can publish your story (plus advertise your screening events) free of charge. Material for the media or for distribution to the public will be posted online (by the way, we would be grateful that you submit to us any sort of material that you plan to use, so that it can inspire others). All these activities require almost no money and little more than some hours of extra work by a few dedicated individuals. The most important ingredient is enthusiasm and some inspiration.

We thank you for your contribution to the World Glaucoma Day and are looking forward to your feedback.

With kind regards,
